Its development started in 1978 and included the construction of Lake Sikome. With plenty of mature trees and green spaces in the community, a community centre which has recreational opportunities with a divided gym, a preschool, a racquetball court and a fully equipped fitness facility to name just a few, Deer Run is a family-orientated community. The centre also offers programming for hockey, baseball and soccer as well as Yoga, jazzercise, Scouts and Guides. Deer Valley Shopping Centre has a Co-op, two gas stations, a Second Cup and many other franchise stores. A 10 minute bus ride to the L.R.T. will take you pretty much anywhere in the city. Downtown via Bow Bottom Trail to Deerfoot Trail is a 20-minute drive. Go west on Anderson and South Centre Shopping centre is also minutes away.
Queensland lies on a hill to the north overlooking the Bow River and is mostly single-family homes and some townhomes dating back to the late 1970s. Deer Ridge is just South of Queensland, and Deer Run is on the southeast-facing slope of a hill that juts into the Bow River portion of Fish Creek Park.
