Downtown Calgary is made up of Downtown West End, Downtown with the Commercial Core, East Village, and Eau Claire. The Chinese community area and the Beltline are also considered part of the downtown family. Many of the original sandstone buildings, developed around the turn of the century, are still found along Stephen Avenue Mall. Some amenities found in the downtown commercial core include the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system (free in the downtown core), the +15 pedestrian system, Olympic Plaza and the Devonian Gardens. No need for a car with shopping and fabulous restaurants at your foot steps: from Eau Claire Market to Penny Lane Shops to Stephen Ave. Walk (8th Ave.), the Arts Centre, and Macleod Trail. Love exercise? Head to the Eau Claire “Y”, the “Running Room” or take a relaxing walk by the Bow River, or rent a raft in the summer and go down the Bow.
